About this site

The Expat Cook is an English expat living in the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife. Tenerife is well known to northern European holidaymakers as a popular tropical sun destination.

The Expat Cook lives about an hour and a half drive from the famous beach resorts of south Tenerife in a town 400 meters above sea level in north Tenerife, in a Spanish environment well away from any shops selling anything British.

He is not, and never has been, a professional cook.

Homemade Cooking

The Expat Cook enjoys living away from other expats, has embraced the Spanish lifestyle, and really enjoys Spanish food. But sometimes, just sometimes, he craves for some food from Blighty. This craving started when the Expat Cook was desperate for some British style pork pies. So he made his own from ingredients found locally.

No British Food

Since no shops sell anything British around here, the Expat Cook has to make all his own homemade British food. Sometimes, ingredients readily available in the UK are hard to find in north Tenerife or not even available, so he has to adjust the recipes to suit what he has available here.

So, this site is where I'm going to post my recipes for other expats to try and enjoy homemade British cooking.
